Some people think that going to Heaven consists of:

  • Keeping the ten commandments
  • Doing good works
  • Turning / repenting from / of sins
  • Living a good moral life
  • Church membership
  • Tithing or giving money to a church
  • Water baptism etc

All of these make sense, but these actions, mindsets, activities and good works are NOT requirements for eternal life.

The Bible says, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost: – Titus 3:5

There is nothing more wonderful in life than discovering God’s plan for eternal life. Discover the truth for yourself, and you can know for certain that you will spend eternity with God.

Principle #1 is realising ETERNAL LIFE IS A FREE GIFT

The Bible says, The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our LordRomans 6:23

Scripture says, For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boastEphesians 2:8-9

There is not one thing you can do to earn a place in Heaven. It is free! According to the Bible. God offers you: LOVE…JOY…PEACE…HAPPINESS.

Principle #2 is acknowledging the PROBLEM OF SIN

The Bible says, For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of GodRomans 3:23

We all fall short of God’s perfect standard.

Scripture says, For the wages of sin is deathRomans 6:23.

By our inherited sin nature, we have all earned death and hell.

Fortunately,

Principle #3 recognises JESUS CHRIST IS GOD’S SOLUTION FOR SIN

The Bible says, For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again according to the scriptures 1 Corinthians 15:1-4.

Scripture says, But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for usRomans 5:8

Scripture says, For he (God) hath made him (Jesus) to be sin for us who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him 2 Corinthians 5:21

Scripture says, But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousnessRomans 4:5

Jesus Christ, the God-Man, has removed the barrier of sin. His death paid the penalty for our sins, and His resurrection made eternal life possible. We are reconciled to God the Father through Jesus the Son.

Principle #4 is your response to God. TRUST IN CHRIST ALONE

The Bible says, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, ad thou shalt be saved, and thy houseActs 16:30-31

Scripture says, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that _________________ (your name) believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting lifeJohn 3:16.

The Bible says, These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God1 John 5:13

Scripture says, Verily verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting lifeJohn 6:47

Principle #5 is God’s promise to you. SALVATION IS ETERNAL

The Bible says, And I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My father, which gave them me, is greater than all, and no man is able to pluck them out of my father’s hand – John 10:28-29

Scripture says, But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his nameJohn 1:12

Salvation is a gift of God. Why not believe on Jesus, who is God in the flesh, who rose from the dead and trust Him right now as your Saviour, who died in your place?

You may want to use this prayer to express your decision to trust in Christ today. It is not the prayer that saves you, as it is the intention of putting your faith in Christ that removes all sin and gifts you with the very righteousness of God, positionally sanctifying you forever before God the Father. You are trusting in the FINISHED WORK that Jesus did for YOU on the cross by his DEATH, BURIAL AND RESURRECTION.

Father, I am a sinner in need of your mercy. I know that I cannot save myself by my own righteousness, but I trust that the Lord Jesus Christ died for my sins and rose again proving that eternal life was accomplished by Him, once for ever. Today, I trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as my Saviour and only way to Heaven, as scripture affirms in John 14:6 – Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Thank you for this precious gift of eternal life. Use me as a vessel for your glory and honour in this lifetime. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
